Organs with tradition and dedication made by Weimbs

Nuremberg, Allerheiligen

In the tranquil and by its widely untouched nature stimulating landscape of the Eifel region organs have been built without interruption for over 600 years. The distinct traditions of several countries merge together in this border area: Influences from France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany merge again and again into unique instruments. More than 20 generations of organ builders live and enliven this symbiosis – long before the term “Europe” came into existence.

For the artisans at Weimbs Orgelbau this tremendous diversity of styles is both an opportunity and an incentive to plan and build organs with the most colourful sound in the established structures of a family business.

In addition, we have been restoring historically very significant organs for decades. Hailing from different eras the Organs are restored utilising the findings of the latest research and interdisciplinary exchange. Examples include the works of our predecessors, the famous organ builder dynasty König in the Basilica of the “Steinfeld” monastery or the castle church of Schleiden. With these ambitious projects Weimbs was able to set benchmarks with their art and craftsmanship gaining recognition in professional circles.

They are maintained by experienced members of staff and are always diligently passed on to the next generations. Wherever applicable, we use cutting edge technology in the production. For example, the Weimbs workshop uses up-to-date hardware and software for planning and design as well as a modern, partly computer-controlled machinery in the joinery. Wherever possible and desired, we devote ourselves to contemporary designs. For that reason, our organs are down-to-earth yet at the cutting edge to modern organ building at the same time. It is also important to us that our organs are unique: in terms of sound, craftsmanship and appearance, they carry the unmistakable signature of the Weimbs workshop and continually push boundaries within those contexts.

Another pillar of our work at Orgelbau Weimbs is the care of the many organs in the immediate surrounding area. Our activities extend far beyond the usual tuning and maintenance work. It is also important to us that the small parish next door enjoys their organ in every day service. In this way, we always find ways of letting smaller or simpler instruments shine in a new light through effectively targeted changes.

The Weimbs workshop was founded in 1927 – a time of economic crisis and artistic reorientation. By paying close attention to the balance between tradition and innovation, Weimbs has been successful far beyond the Eifel region and Germany itself. Our organs are placed in delicate architecture like the Romanesque church of St. Gereon in Cologne but also in Norway or Japan proving that our work appeals to a diverse client base.

It is no coincidence that UNESCO has added organ building and organ music in Germany to the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Reasons for this include stylistic diversity and the high capacity for innovation.

The organ builders at Weimbs are pleased to be part of this great heritage and make a daily contribution through their commitment to excellence.

We are happy to set up the team of the workshop Weimbs and together with you look for the right way to an individually designed organ.
