Weiden i.d. Oberpfalz, St. Michaelskirche
— New organ construction of the “MAX-REGER memorial organ” —
The concept of the organ runs on the late romantic instruments which existed in the time of Max Reger’s life.
Max Reger made his first experiences in organ playing on the old, classical organ of the Church of St Michael in Weiden. A special feature of this organ is that two of the three manual divisions are built as individual swell divisions:
First, the Choir. It is situated above the Great and takes over the partner function of the same. On the other hand, the actual Swell. As a, in its volume adjustable “Echo-Organ” it’s set behind the Great being characterised as such by its location creating “mystical sounds”. The overall arrangement of manual divisions and a lavish specification of the pedal division provide a prerequisite for the tonal style of romantic organ literature.
