— New organ —

The Catholic parish church of St. Marien in Mönchengladbach-Rheydt is one of the largest churches in the diocese of Aachen.

One part of the comprehensive interior renovation 2010/11 was the design of a new organ.

The old organ was made in 1946 by the company Stahlhuth of Aachen in an initial construction phase with 16 stops.

The second phase commenced in 1958 which has seen another 18 stops added.

In 1963, the organ was rebuilt by the Walcker company of Ludwigsburg and expanded to 43 stops.

In 1974, the cone chests in the first and second manuals were replaced by electrically operated slider sound boards and the organ was again extended by 2 stops to a total of 45 stops. The company Wilbrand of Übach-Palenberg was responsible for this work.

The contract for the creation of a concept to re-design the interior of the church was awarded to the architects of Dr. Ing. Schrammen of Mönchengladbach. The task was to give the church a new, contemporary face and to create a more atmospheric ambience for the community.
