Aachen-Brand, Columbarium St. Donatus

— Reorganisation and Relocation of the Wilbrand Organ (1975) —

In the course of the rededication of the Erlöserkirche in Aachen Brand into a Columbarium, the question arose, how to deal with the existing organ. The transformation required in any case firstly to distmantle the instrument. Since the organ of the firm Wilbrand of Aachen dating from 1975 had considerable signs of wear, an overall concept was to be created first. The plans of the Columbarium St. Donatus showed a dignified area for exequial celebrations, so that the organ should also be re-established, albeit on a different location in the room. Finally, we overhauled the organ in the workshop, all bellows were re-leathered, a new, stronger wind generator was installed, new slider magnets instead of the old motors were installed, the sequencer system was renewed and the console was technically and visually revised. The icing on the cake was given to the organ by a fundamental revoicing and a total optical redesign. Organ and and building have a new look – a great example of comparable projects.
