— New organ —

Bergen Marienkirche Weimbs-Orgel 2The Church of St Mary in Bergen (Norway) was built around 1130 inspired by Speyer cathedral it was constructed of natural stone and is considered the oldest surviving building in the city. It is located in the north-eastern part of the well-known district Bryggen.

When Norway converted to the Protestant faith in 1536 through the Reformation, almost all Catholic images and icons were removed. This was not the case in the Church of St Mary, as it was a church of German merchants. For this reason, you will be able to see the Virgin Mary in the centre of the altarpiece. Until 1868 sermons in the church were held in German.

In a period of about three years, the church was very elaborately restored inside and out. The concept of comprehensive interior renovation also included a new organ. The tender was based on the design of the Swedish architect Ulf Oldaeus of Stockholm.

After the restoration of the church was completed, the new organ was solemnly brought into service to the church on June 21, 2015.
