— New organ with re-use of the historic organ case —
It can be found in the parish chronicle of the Catholic Church St. Peter of Rheinberg that the original organ was built by the Stumm brothers of Trier. It is dated with 1769. However, since Franz Bösken’s collection “The Stumm family of organ builders” does not find a suitable classification, we must assume that the organ was originally built for another church. So far it is not clear whether the organ was first built in 1769 for another church or translocated to Rheinberg on that date.
In 1967 the instrument was redesigned by the company Walcker of Ludwigsburg. The organ was fastened to the back wall without a base by means of a steel construction. Underneath, the choir took its place. The all new inner of the organ was controlled over a new free-standing, electrical console.
In 2007, the parish under expert advice of cathedral organist Mr.Wolfgang Schwering decided to acquire a new organ in “historical dress”.
The concept of the new organ is a modern instrument with mechanical key and electrical stop action The craftsmanship and especially the stop specification are based on instruments of the brothers Stumm.
On November 29, 2009, it was solemnly consecrated and comissioned in to service to the parish after a twelve-month construction period.
