Harry Dix and Mathieu Hell celebrate 40 and 30 years of service
In 2025, WEIMBS Orgelbau had two reasons to celebrate: two deserving employees celebrated their service anniversaries.
Harry Dix looks back on 40 years of service, Mathieu Hell on 30 years – and both have had a decisive influence on the history and development of our company.
40 years at WEIMBS: Harry Dix
Harry Dix began his professional career with an apprenticeship at WEIMBS Orgelbau – and has been an integral part of our team ever since. After a brief interruption to complete his master craftsman’s examination, he took on responsibility as workshop foreman for technical processes in production and for numerous installations around the world.
Harry is an all-round organ builder of the old school who learned his craft from the ground up. It is particularly noteworthy that he acquired this knowledge from long-standing colleagues of the older generation – including the art of building mechanical cone chests. This traditional know-how can now only be found in a few workshops, but is kept alive in our company thanks to Harry’s commitment and his passing it on to younger employees. His contribution to preserving these traditional skills is invaluable.
We value Harry as an intelligent, humorous, and extremely reliable employee who inspires not only his colleagues but also our trainees with his enormous knowledge and calm manner. His contribution to passing on traditional skills and preserving craftsmanship cannot be overestimated.
Although I, Frank Weimbs, was not yet actively involved in the company at the beginning of his career, I had known Harry since my early youth. Since our workshop was right next to the house at the time, I often went in and out of it as a schoolboy—and so I was able to witness many anecdotes and humorous exchanges between my grandfather and Harry firsthand. These memories are still very vivid in my mind today and show how close the bond between generations has grown.
It fills me with even more joy today – many years later – to be able to look back on four decades of great work together with him. The company anniversary was also honored with an official certificate of honor from the Aachen Chamber of Crafts.
30 years at WEIMBS: Mathieu Hell
I met Mathieu Hell during my own training period in southern Germany. After completing his master craftsman course, I was able to persuade him to move to Hellenthal—and that was a real stroke of luck for our company.
Mathieu has now been working as a designer at WEIMBS for 30 years. His passion for organ building and his thirst for knowledge led him to undertake a demanding further training course to become a “master designer in the craft” – a protected title that combines profound technical and design expertise.
Mathieu has been designing our new organs for many years, creating the complete construction and sound planning, which has reached an exceptionally high level of depth thanks to his additional training as an organist. His designs combine traditional craftsmanship with aesthetic sophistication and musical sensitivity.
A native of Alsace, Mathieu has lived in Hellenthal since he started working here, but still maintains close contact with his family back home. We value him as a loyal, conscientious, and committed employee who often puts his own interests aside for the good of the company—true collegiality in the best WEIMBS tradition.
Thanks and recognition
On behalf of the entire team and management, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Harry Dix and Mathieu Hell for their decades of loyalty, dedication, and outstanding achievements.
Both exemplify the values that have shaped WEIMBS Orgelbau: passion, precision, reliability, and humanity.
